How about the Fighting Gamecock oline and Coach Shawn Elliott controlling the line against the Bulldogs. 50 plus runs has been unheard of for us in an SEC game. Chisolm and Watkins were excellent at guard, and the entire unit played well together. Ok, there were a few miscues in pass blocking, but what an improvement from the end of last season. Lattimore is a big time back. Man, it sure is nice to get one of those who is not a head case-Summers and Watson.
Play of the game-Ealy's fumble on the two yard line on the hit by Holloman and Gilmore returning it to the 14. Not giving up any points after kicking it out of bounds with under 2 to go in the first half was big as well. LB play was better, but not great. Ace Sanders, all 5" whatever of him, was blocking his heart out for Alshon. Dimarco was blocking like those stud FBs that UGA seems to always have. Nice to have one on our side for a change. We missed Saunders when UGA brought up their LBs and we didn't have a TE to slip behind them over the middle. Notice we stayed in 3 wide with Jason Barnes.
Through two games, the kick coverage and return games have been much better. I thought Gilmore had a TD on one. He gave us great field position on the 50 and not scoring due to the big sack by three Bulldogs could have been a game changer, but the D stood up. Stephon Gilmore is a shut down corner, period.
New UGA QB, Aaron Murray, has a heck of an arm. He missed on some long throws that could have been big plays, but he did everything they asked him too well. True, he had no pressure, but he showed a lot of poise. Why did they stop running toss sweep to the right? They were gashing us. Missing Green hurt, and may contribute to a loss next week versus Arkansas. UGA's new DC calls a great game and the 3-4 will be tough once he gets personnel to fit the scheme. The UGA oline may be the best we see all year. They shut Cliff Matthews down the entire game until the last 2 drives.
Big win! With Florida looking vunerable, this is the year! Go Cocks!
